From digital visuals to tangible Creation: Perfecting Nightwear through Sampling and Production
Picture a digital sketch evolving into a piece of wearable comfort. Join us as we explore how creativity blends seamlessly with strategy. In this continuation, we’ll delve into the essential steps of sampling and production, uncovering how each process is meticulously executed to ensure that every piece of nightwear meets high-quality standards.
Sampling - Prototype Creation:
Sampling - Prototype Creation:
Our prototype process focuses on evaluating the fit, comfort, and overall appearance of sleepwear designs. We create samples to assess how the fabric behaves and verify print placements.
Fabric Test
We follow a systematic procedure to assess fabric shrinkage, expansion, and colour fastening.
Pre-Wash Measurements: We place the garment samples flat on a table and record their chest, waist, and full-length measurements. These initial measurements are documented in our Shrinkage/Expansion file with a photograph.
Washing: The samples are then sent for washing. If there is colour fastening, we ensure to do a colour fixer wash for production pieces.
After-Wash Measurements: After washing, we measure the chest, waist, and full length of the garments. These after-wash measurements are compared with the pre-wash measurements to determine the extent of fabric shrinkage or expansion.
Pattern Making
Typically, fabric testing and pattern-making occur simultaneously. However, for our nightwear collection, we have pre-existing patterns. We meticulously ensure that the measurements in the tech pack, the sample measurements and the pattern measurements are the same.
Creating Production Summary Sheet.
Once the sample meets our quality standards and the pattern is finalised, we determine the production quantities for each size and design.
Cutting and Sewing Process
Cutting and Sewing Process
Fabric Preparation: We lay the fabric flat on the cutting table.
Pattern Placement: We position the printed pattern paper on top of the fabric.
Cutting: We cut the fabric according to the pattern.
Considerations Before Converting the Soft Copy of a Pattern to Paper:
Fabric Width: We take into account the width of the fabric to ensure efficient use.
Print Orientation: We assess whether the fabric has a one-directional print or an all-over print to align the pattern accordingly.
Print Orientation: We assess whether the fabric has a one-directional print or an all-over print to align the pattern accordingly.
Entering these details into the software enables the pattern to be optimised for layout, minimising fabric waste and ensuring efficient use of materials.
Sewing Preparation:
Notching and Marking: Make necessary notches and markings on the fabric pieces to guide sewing.
Machine Setup: Thread the sewing machine with the appropriate thread for the fabric type and colour.
Needle Selection: We choose the correct needle type and size for the fabric.
Assembly: Begin by sewing the fabric pieces together according to the pattern instructions. Attach pieces such as sleeves and pockets to the main garment body.
Finishing: We attach wooden buttons to the sleepwear tops and drawstrings to the pants. The buttons are thoughtfully placed on the inner side to prevent discomfort.
Pressing Seams: Press seams open or to one side as needed to ensure a smooth finish and proper alignment.
Quality Check:
Inspection: Examine the garment for stitching consistency, seam alignment and overall construction quality. Remove loose threads, and prepare the garment for packaging or further processing.
This systematic approach ensures well-constructed and professionally finished sleepwear.
As technology advances and consumer expectations evolve, the synergy between digital innovation and traditional craftsmanship remains essential for delivering exceptional sleepwear. By consistently applying these meticulous efforts to every collection, we create sleepwear that extends comfort beyond sleep time.
